Brain Injury Causes : Automobiles
One of the leading causes of traumatic brain injury is from motor vehicle accidents. Occupants, Pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists are all the potential individuals at risk for brain injuries, so whenever you are either riding, driving, or walking on or near a street it is very important to take safety precautions. You may be surprised to learn that the number of accidents that result in fatalities or traumatic brain injury are double in rural areas rather than in cities.
younger drivers are generally more at risk for automobile accident related traumatic brain injuries because they tend to drive a little more recklessly. Educating young people on the risks of speeding, and irresponsible driving can benefit in decreasing the number of fatalities and traumatic brain injuries.
According to a 2001 study, pedestrians account for 13% of all automobile related brain injuries and deaths. Unfortunately, most of the victims in pedestrian accidents are young children or the elderly. The reason why children and the elderly are at high risk for brain injury and fatality as pedestrians is that their perception and judgement are not that of a fully developed and functioning mind. Their alertness and ability to assess speed and distance are compromised this putting them are greater risk for accidents, traumatic brain injury, and even fatalities.
